Jahvon Quinerly is set to be the next great Villanova guard

News and Notes from Villanova and college basketball.

Villanova Mug Arizin Links

Happy Thursday Nova Nation! Chris should be back from the desert soon, and hopefully he used Uncle Brendan’s sure fire system for success. Just go to the roulette table and put all your chips on 8, 5, 16, and 18. Sure thing, trust me.

In today’s news, Jahvon Quinerly has become the latest Villanova player to sign his letter of intent, and the third 5 star recruit to come in under Wright during this current run of success. While we all know the question marks around JQ, if he’s available he’ll likely slide into the starting five next year along with Phil Booth, Donte DiVincenzo, Eric Paschall, and Omari Spellman. This also assumes all of those guys are back too.

But the question for Nova Nation this morning is what that means for the rest of the bench. Villanova is going to have 7 guys available off the bench the way things stand right now, and Wright usually only uses 3 or 4. This would imply that one or more players will likely take a red-shirt season next year. It’s proven to work for Villanova so far, as five of the top six scorers from last season all had a red shirt year for one reason or another.

So I leave it to you to suss out who might be riding the bench this year. For the sake of argument, let’s take out Painter and Delaney. Painter just had his red-shirt season, and there would be no reason for Delaney to sit out this year. That leaves Gillespie, Cosby-Roundtree, Samuels, Swider, and Slater. The choice is yours!

In other news, Jay Wright is #1, Villanova’s recruits are #1, Ryan Arcidiacono is #1, Philly sports are #1, and the NCAA is not. Enjoy!
