On the back of a monster National Championship and monster 2018 recruiting class, Villanova Wildcats fans could be in for more good news on Tuesday afternoon. 4-star forward and Abington product Eric Dixon is set to announce his college commitment.
Here’s the need to know on Dixon’s big day.
Time: 1pm ET
Location: Abington Senior High School (Abington, Pa.)
Live Stream: will be added if/when available
The Background: Dixon is officially down to four schools - Villanova, Virginia, Louisville and Seton Hall - but this has looked to be a Jay Wright vs. Tony Bennett battle for a while.
The two coaches frequently run up against each other on the trail, and are among the best at identifying and developing talent in the country. That should make you feel good that both have recruited Dixon so heavily.
Dixon is currently ranked #114 in the country as a 4-star recruit. That looks to be dragged down by ESPN not expanding their 2019 rankings yet. Rivals has him at #72 while 247 has him at #104.
He’ll play for WE-R-1 on the Under Armour circuit this year.
The Potential Fit: Reported between 6’6” and 6’7”, Dixon is a bit undersized for a traditional power forward. He’ll also need to buy-in to the S&C program whereever he ends up to shed some of the extra weight he’s carrying.
On the plus side, he’s got a refined post-game and can step outside and make jumpers. The skills are there and you can see why Coach Wright feels like he can develop into a quality contributor.
With Eric Paschall set to leave following next season, Dixon looks like a good fit as a forward who can play both inside and out.
Prediction: Since offering him in the fall, Dixon has been a priority target for the ‘Cats. At the time of this post, all 11 predictions on the Crystal Ball are for Villanova. It would be a major shocker if this didn’t end with Dixon commiting to Villanova and becoming the first member of the 2019 class.
