Happy Wednesday Nova Nation! Technically this news broke late on Monday, but we now know that the Wildcats will host the Wolverines in a rematch of last season’s National Championship. In fact, Villanova will play both of their opponents from the 2018 Final Four before the end of the year. Guess they didn’t get enough the first time around!
This will be the first time that college basketball has seen a Championship rematch since Butler and Duke faced off for a second time in 2010. That time the previous year’s Champion also won the rematch. Here’s hoping history repeats itself!
Outside of Michigan State, this was the best available opponent the Wildcats could have faced in the Gavitt Games. Villanova will now potentially have three to four ranked teams on its non-conference schedule, which should help with seeding at the end of the season.
In other “news”, NBA Draft Combine talk, Omari Spellman is staying trim, coaches aren’t as good at recruiting as Jay Wright, and some nerd does math with basketball. Enjoy!
