Is former N.C. State signee Saddiq Bey an option for Villanova?

Yay, offseason rumors!

Who’s ready for some juicy gossip? You may remember the name Saddiq Bey if you followed 2018 recruiting. The 4-star wing originally committed to North Carolina State, but has since asked for and been granted his release before ever enrolling.

That makes Bey an extremely late option for the class of 2018 which will be coming to campus shortly. And you guessed it, one local recruitnik thinks Bey will ultimately land at Villanova.

H/T to Crystal Ball watcher Jdefal01 for catching this as Maryland recruiting writer Jeff Ermann made the pick a couple of days ago.

Bey was lightly recruited by Villanova and made a visit, but to my knowledge was never offered. At 6’7”, he’s ranked #129 in the 247 Composite rankings and attended the same school (Sidwell Friends) as Josh Hart.

My initial reaction was “not a chance.” As things stand, Villanova is at the maximum 13 scholarships for next season.

But with Donte DiVincenzo looking likely to stay in the NBA Draft (Omari Spellman could as well), there should be a scholarship free if Wright wanted to bring Bey aboard.

The wing position seems crowded - and Jay Wright likes a smaller roster - but as a proud member of the #WingU club I know that we want all the wings. The big question is a crowded roster, with plenty of depth at Bey’s position.

Would he redshirt next season? Would somebody else? Does this mean there might be a transfer in the cards for a current player? Tough to say. But for now, it’s fun to speculate that the spring recruiting tear may continue.
