Add a new name to your 2020 watchlist, as 5-star prospect Scottie Barnes says that Villanova is among the group of schools recruiting him the hardest.

Barnes is a 6’7” wing from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. who attends University School and plays for Nike Team Florida on the EYBL circuit. He’s currently ranked #7 overall in 247 Composite’s 2020 rankings. He holds offers from Kentucky, Kansas, Florida, Miami (Fla.), Syracuse and LSU.
Villanova has yet to offer Barnes, but with coaches able to contact 2020 players directly soon that may change in the near future.
It’s easy to watch a mixtape of Barnes and be excited about what he brings to the table. He’s a high-level athlete with a long wingspan that likes to finish above the rim. He’s also a willing passer and competitive defender. Scouts have universally raved about the intensity he plays with on both ends.
He also wants to go to college, even though he’s exactly the type of prospect that could go directly to the NBA if the rules change in 2020 as many expect. Via FloHoops:
“It’s always going to be something to look into to see if you’re in the right position or not, but me personally I think I want to go through the college experience and see what’s that like,” the 6-foot-5 Barnes said here at the second Nike EYBL live session. “I just want to go to college.”
For now, a name to keep an eye on as it looks like Villanova has done well to get involved early.
