Happy Tuesday Nova Nation! Secrets, secrets, are no fun! Some rumors made the rounds yesterday that Omari Spellman may be leaning toward staying in the NBA draft and hiring an agent. While that’s certainly a possibility for the talented big man, it’s probably not likely at this stage in the game. Especially now that he has an invite to the NBA Combine next week.
In order to sign with an agent, Spellman would have likely needed a first round guarantee from a team. The rumor is that may have come from the Boston Celtics who hold the 27th pick in the first round. Guarantees themselves aren’t a lock, because you never know who might drop that late in the draft. But I can’t imagine Spellman would take action on any new info with the Combine coming up. He’s a confident young man and he’s going to have the opportunity to play for every team and get some more definitive feedback. There’s no reason to make any decisions until after that happens if everything he’s hearing is positive so far.
The bottom line is, there’s no reason for us to get worked up about rumors from uncredited sources. It’s very possible that DiVincenzo and Spellman are headed to the NBA. It’s also very possible that they both return. Honestly, we aren’t going to know one way or the other until after next weekend. Until then, know that we’ll have all of your VERIFIED Villanova Basketball News as it breaks right here at VUHoops.com.
In other “news”, Jay Wright is great, Villanova’s 2019 recruiting class is great, Villanova Lacrosse is great, Kyle Lowry is getting “old”, Phil Marteli IS old, Xavier’s going to be very young, and TBT is back. Enjoy!
