Villanova Basketball 3 on 3 Summer Tournament: Elite 8

We kick off the final week of our summer tournament with the toughest matchups yet!

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-East Regional-Villanova vs Texas Tech Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

All month we’re squaring off the best user-submitted teams in a giant 128 team 3 on 3 tournament. Voting closes every night at midnight, so be sure to check back every day to vote for your favorite teams and see who comes away as the 2018 Summer Tournament Champion!

We’re entering the final stretch as eight teams enter the Regional Finals to see who can reach the Final Four. On those eight teams remain just twelve Villanova basketball greats that span the last eight decades of Villanova basketball. The front-runners of that group are Kerry Kittles and Howard Porter, each of which remain on five teams in the tournament.

Coming off the Sweet 16, we actually had two matchups end in a tie. I went to a close, long-time Villanova fan to decide on the tiebreakers. After considering all four teams, Tough Guys and Rockets were chosen to advance to the Elite 8 along with MVPs, Porter 7-8-9, We’ve Got Hart!, Team Favorites, Best of the Best, and Bull’s Bombers. Will they continue towards a Championship, or is this the end of the road? Let’s find out!

Wright Region: MVPs (9) vs Tough Guys (6)

Our first matchup pits Villanova’s four winners of the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award against four of the most hard nosed grinders in program history. Donte DiVincenzo and Ryan Arcidiacono of team MVPs are facing elimination as this is their final entry of the tournament. But they’ll have their work cut out for them if they’re going to get by the four Wildcats who have achieved arguably to most NBA success in the past 25 years.

Massimino Region: Porter 7-8-9 (1) vs We’ve Got Hart! (11)

In the Rollie Region, we have the highest remaining seed in the tournament taking on the second lowest. But don’t be fooled by seeding, both of these teams are stacked. With Ed Pinckney on both teams, this becomes a true 3 on 3 of Lowry, Kittles, and Porter vs Reynolds, Briges, and Hart. Each team has a bit of an edge inside and outside the perimeter, but it’s up to you to decide who comes out on top!

Kraft Region: Team Favorites (1) vs Best of the Best (2)

This is the only part of the bracket where both the top seeds made it past the other 30 teams that started in their region. That could be because both teams feature three of Villanova’s best all-time players in Jalen Brunson, Kerry Kittles and Howard Porter. But the remaining matchup Randy Foye and Paul Arizin would be one for the ages!

Severance Region: Bull’s Bombers (12) vs Rockets (2)

In our final game of the day, Kyle Lowry is the only cross-over player. That leaves us with Hart, Bridges, and Pinckney taking on Brunson, Kittles, and Porter. First off, Lowry v Lowry would be awesome! But the rest of these matchups are so intriguing I don’t know who I would pick. Lucky for me, that’s your job.
