Villanova Basketball All-Time 3 on 3 Summer Tournament Bracket

This is my third year putting together a summer tournament for VUHoops. Usually it’s just me putting together a list of popular and featured players, but this time I handed the reigns over to you guys to decide who should get in. I’ll be honest, I was a little worried that we might not be able to get a full field of 64 teams because it’s the offseason and it’s tough to come up with that many combinations. BOY WAS I WRONG!

Last week the readers of VUHoops.com came through in a big way. In total we had 448 submissions, which included 278 unique teams and 120 players. To be honest, there was just no way I could boil this whole thing down to 64 teams. I’d either have to eliminate some real contenders, some of your favorite players, or some truly great team names like “The Italian Mob”, “2016>2018”, or “HARTNITE”. So the only solution that made sense to me was to take a page out of the NCAA’s playbook and mess with a good thing. This year’s tournament is expanding to 128 teams.

The field has a good mix of Nova greats and some of your favorite players. The player that appears on the most teams (about 1/3) is Kerry Kittles. The four Wildcats that were just drafted to the NBA were all in the Top 16 for most votes among players. There are also 23 write-in players in the field, and Tim Thomas is the highest seeded among them.

Starting later today we’ll open up the voting on the First Round and continue throughout the week. But for now, we’re just revealing the bracket. Seeding was determined through an algorithm of per game stats, titles, and voting. In other words, if you have a problem with where a team is seeded, blame math. Good luck to everyone who submitted a team that made the tournament, and let’s see if Ryan Arcidiacono (member of 11 teams in the tournament) can win this thing for a 3rd year in a row!
