All month we’re squaring off the best user-submitted teams in a giant 128 team 3 on 3 tournament. Voting closes every night at midnight, so be sure to check back every day to vote for your favorite teams and see who comes away as the 2018 Summer Tournament Champion!
A month ago we started this tournament by asking you to write in submissions for the best 3-on-3 teams in Villanova history. Nova Nation submitted 448 teams which we whittled down to a bracket of 128. After four weeks and 21,501 votes, we finally have our Champions.
With a late pull away victory in the polls, the MVPs team that featured Villanova’s four NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Players came away as Champions. Those players include Howard Porter, Ed Pinckney, Ryan Arcidiacono, and Donte DiVincenzo. While obviously it was the talent and popularity of all these players that propelled them to the Championship, the win has extra meaning for Arch.
With three VUHoops Summer Tournaments now in the books, Ryan Arcidiacono has walked away as Champion in three consecutive seasons. He was “Mr. Villanova” and a winner when he was on the team, and now he continues the Championship efforts he put forth on the Main Line.
Thank you again to everyone who participated by either submitting teams or voting on the outcome. We’d love to get suggestions for next year’s tournament in the comments below, and we’ll be sure to bring the tournament back again next July. Enjoy the rest of the summer Nova Nation, because November is right around the corner!
