The Villanova Wildcats returned to the AP Poll Top 25 on Monday, securing the #22 spot. Their resurgence in the poll comes in the midst of a five game winning streak, including opening Big East play at 4-0. This was an especially successful weeks for the Cats, defeating then ranked St. John’s at home before picking up a road win at Creighton.
Villanova is joined in the rankings by fellow Big East school Marquette at #15. St. John’s (12) fell into the “others receiving votes” category after losing to DePaul at home, albeit without star guard Shamorie Ponds. Seton Hall (6) also received votes this week, as did fellow Big 5 school Temple (5) . Jay Wright’s former stomping grounds, Hofstra, also received one vote this week.
The Wildcats will look to continue climbing the poll this week as they host Xavier on Friday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
