The Wildcats kick off their Big East slate against DePaul

Happy Game Day Nova Nation! It’s been a minute since the Wildcats have played, but meaningful basketball is back tonight as Nova hosts DePaul to kick-off their Big East season. But even before the ball is tipped, the Wildcats are already in a good spot.

While Villanova stumbled in the non-conference, Marquette broke into the Top 25 and St. John’s went undefeated in their first 12 games. While many experts were still picking Villanova to win the Big East, others said that it was now Marquette or possibly the Johnnies as a dark horse that were now in the poll position for the race to a conference title. Funny how that can all change in a few short days.

Before Nova played its first game, Marquette and St. Johns have both suffered their first Big East losses. The Johnnies fell victim to some late game heroics by Seton Hall, who appears good enough to beat anyone but doesn’t play consistently enough to always pull it off. Then, St. John’s took that loss out on Marquette to the tune of a 20 point beat down at home. Now both of those teams are saddled with an early loss to start conference play and the Wildcats are in prime position to take advantage.

A win tonight for the Wildcats will keep them on pace to return to the top of the Big East. The winner of Seton Hall at Xavier tonight would claim sole possession of first place at 2-0, but the Wildcats would become one of only four BE teams without a loss by the end of the night. I’m not expecting Nova to run away with the conference this season, so every win or opponent loss matters. Lets Go Cats!
