Villanova Ices DePaul 86-74

Hot shooting carried the day in a frigid Chicago

NCAA Basketball: Villanova at DePaul David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Despite frigid temperatures in Chicago, Villanova was able to heat up from deep en route to defeating the DePaul Blue Demons 86-74. The Wildcats hit a total of 15 threes to take care of business and capture their ninth straight win.

The Wildcats were once again led by seniors Phil Booth and Eric Paschall. Booth, continuing his absolutely torrid streak, finished with 19 points on 7-16 shooting from the floor, including 3-8 from deep. Paschall, only hitting 6 of his 18 shots from the floor, was able to pour in 20 of his own, including 6 free throws.

Saddiq Bey kept pace with the seniors, putting up 16 points on 4-6 shooting from deep. Collin Gillespie was able to shake off some early fouls (and a tough fall in the first half), to chip in 12 points on four triples.

The key to the game, besides the obvious barrage from deep, was Villanova’s success on the offensive glass. The Wildcats tallied 14 offensive rebounds, finishing with a +8 margin over DePaul. Saddiq Bey alone finished with 11 rebounds, including 7 on the offensive side.

Villanova returns home for a noontime tip against the Georgetown Hoyas on Sunday.
