Villanova Basketball has two Wildcats in the Top 101 Players

They may be underrated, but they’re in there.

Happy Friday Nova Nation! CBS put out their annual list of 100 (and 1) players for the 2019-2020 season. Villanova fans have become used to having multiple Wildcats featured prominently in this list, but this year’s a little different. There are still two Nova players on the list, but they both were ranked in the 90’s.

Saddiq Bey comes in at 93, while Collin Gillespie barely makes the cut at 97. I’m not trying to argue that these guys should be Top 10 or anything, but I think the Wildcats are being way undervalued on this list. While I understand that pundits are expecting scoring to be more distributed this year, I think that’s a discredit to guys like Bey who could end up averaging 15+ a night for the Wildcats. Not to mention guys like Jermaine Samuels or Jeremiah Robinson-Earl that didn’t even make the list.

But the really head-scratching move for me on this list is that no less than ten Big East players come in ranked ahead of Bey at 93. Sure, you have guys like Myles Powell (2) and Markus Howard (3) up there. They’re going to be the stars of the league and deserve those spots. But if these guys are going to say Villanova will win the conference, I can’t see how they rank all of Kamar Baldwin (32), Alpha Diallo (39), Naji Marshall (40), Mustapha Heron (50), Ty-shon Alexander (51), James Akinjo (65), Omer Utseven (74), and Paul Scruggs (91) all get ranked ahead of the Nova guys.

My prediction, Saddiq Bey and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl are going to make this list look silly by the end of the season. But I leave it to you Nova Nation, where would you have ranked Saddiq Bey in the Top 100?
