Villanova Basketball’s Home Court Advantage

The Wildcats have one of the longest active home winning streaks in the country

Happy Tuesday Nova Nation! Sorry for the late start this morning, sometimes those pesky “real jobs” get in the way of sports. That said, there was an article today that caught my eye. Villanova currently ranks 12th (tied with VCU) in active home winning streaks in college basketball. That’s right, the Wildcats haven’t lost at the Finn or the Wells Fargo Center since last November and the Furman debacle. Since then, Nova has won eleven straight at home including a perfect 9-0 in Big East play.

Looking to extend that streak, Villanova won’t be truly tested on their home court in November. Their only two opponents, Army and Ohio, should serve as opportunities to help the team grow together and continue to improve. December is when the streak will be put to the test.

The month opens with back to back home games with La Salle and Penn. Normally that wouldn’t be anything to sneeze at, but now you have Ashley Howard in his second year and a Penn team that beat Nova last season. These should be W’s, but not ones that can be taken lightly. But the real tests come at the end of the month. First Villanova takes on #3 Kansas at the Wells Fargo Center, and then closes out the month with #19 Xavier at the Finn. Those will both be really tough games for the ‘Cats, and being over winter break isn’t going to help any. However, if Villanova somehow finds a way to get to 2020 without dropping a home game then they may not lose at home all season.

In other “news”, Omari Spellman had a very Omari Spellman dunk last night, more photos and analysis from the UNC scrimmage, and a Villanova alum is filming a new series for HBO right near campus. Enjoy!

When University of New Hampshire football coach Ricky Santos looks across the way at Villanova, he sees the explosive offense he doesn’t yet have. At some point in these coming weeks, he might need it. It’s down to four games left for UNH (4-3, 3-1 CAA), which is coming off a bye week and still has its goals of winning the CAA and qualifying for the NCAA playoffs right in front of it.
