Happy Monday Nova Nation! Once you’re a Wildcat, you’re always a Wildcat. Freshman point guard Jahvon Quinerly certainly had some controversy surrounding him during his time at Villanova, but he’s still always going to be a Wildcat. For that, we wish him the best no matter where he lands to complete his collegiate career.
As to where that might be, it looks like the options are wide open. Pittsburgh was immediately announced as an interested school, and Alabama was recently confirmed as visiting Quinerly in New Jersey. Reports have also named Arkansas, Oregon, Nebraska, Florida State, Colorado, Arizona State, and others. Rumors indicate those “others” range from as far away as California, and as close as La Salle, and everywhere in between.
While Quinerly wasn’t a fit in Jay Wright’s system, he’s still a talented player and 5-Star recruit. Villanova’s success has allowed them to be more selective even with elite recruits, but the fact is that most schools don’t have that luxury. At most programs Quinerly could step in as the best player on the court, and at a most other schools in the major conferences he’d still be the Top 3.
Quinerly’s skill set is best suited for a high paced offense that gives him the freedom to push in the open court and create in the half court. We saw flashes of this with the Wildcats, but his defense and off-court actions were the main factors keeping him on the bench. Hopefully with a year to sit out and acclimate to a new system, he’ll be able to hit the ground running for the 2021 season.
I wish Jahvon Quinerly nothing but the best (unless he happens to face the Wildcats again), and hope that he finds more personal success with his next school. As for where we think he’ll land, I leave that up to you Nova Nation:
