Welcome back to another day of the VU Hoops 2019 Summer Tournament: Hometown Heroes. Be sure to check out our Tournament Hub for an interactive hometown map, updated bracket, and links to our tournaments from previous seasons. Now onto today’s voting!
I know many of us thought Josh Hart’s team could be dominant, but in yesterday’s match they got 123 of 124 votes. The #2 Maryland: DC Suburbs team will be joined in the Sweet 16 by #1 Central Philadelphia, #5 South & Central USA, and #3 West Philadelphia.
We close out the first round with the Severance Region, where two of the eight teams had to advance through the Play-In round. We’ll see if either of them can pull off big upsets to continue on with the final spots in the Sweet 16.
Severance Region
#1 Washington DC vs #8 Western Pennsylvania
The Washington DC team has some notable players in George Raveling and George Leftwich, but the real draw are the three Herron brothers. Middle brother Keith finished his Villanova career as the school’s leading scorer, and now sits 3rd on the all-time list. Western PA features Villanova’s 5th all-time leading scorer in Doug West, and already have a win under their belts from the Play-In round.

But an early upset could be in the works, as Phil Booth and Daniel Ochefu’s Baltimore team look to continue building on their Play-In victory.
