Villanova Basketball’s Jason Donnelly named new Furman Athletic Director

Happy Friday Nova Nation! Former Villanova Assistant Coach Jason Donnelly has officially been named the new Athletic Director for Furman University!

While we’re all thrilled for Jason, who moved successfully from coaching to administration at Villanova for several years, did it have to be Furman? To quote our own Chris Lane, “That one hurt. It was almost out of my memory”. Obviously this is a tremendous hire and there isn’t a more deserving person for the job, but that Furman loss still stings a little.

And that’s where the “more” good news comes in. Wright is no stranger to scheduling some games against smaller schools that he has relationships with. Not necesarily when he has to coach against a friend or former assistant, but definitely when he has a buddy in the front office. I wouldn’t be surprised if sometime in the next 5 years we get to see a rematch with Furman, and I feel like that second meeting will go much differently than the first.

Anyway, congratulations again to Jason Donnelly! He’ll be missed around campus, but he’s off to a great job in a great city and we couldn’t be happier for him.
