Villanova Basketball’s 2019-2020 Schedule: July Update

It’s July, and that means we’re just about at the mid-point of the college basketball off-season. While that can mean some long dry-spells of actual college basketball news, it is usually when we start getting the final pieces of the puzzle that is next season’s schedule. This year has been no different.

It looks like we now know all of Villanova’s games for the upcoming season. The biggest games in the non-conference will be the Gavitt Games matchup at Ohio State, the conclusion of a home-and-home with Kansas, and one last “not yet a Big East” game with UConn. We also now know that Villanova will play Deleware in Newark, as well as host Army and Ohio University.

The Big 5 will not repeat last year’s “gauntlet” schedule in which Villanova played all four city rivals in consecutive games. Instead we found out today that Villanova won’t travel to Temple until conference play is nearly over on Sunday, February 16th. We continue to wait on additional times and dates, but it’s safe to say that the rest of the Big 5 games will likely come in November and December.

The only big mystery remaining is the bracket for the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Last season they announced the bracket in late July, so we’re probably a few weeks out from knowing what Villanova’s path could look like. That said, with Memphis pulling out it’s a fairly safe bet that ESPN is hoping for a Villanova vs Baylor final game. That means Nova would likely get either Mississippi State or Utah in the semi-final. Other teams in the field include Coastal Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Ohio University, and Tulane.

We know the opponents, and that’s the most important part. Now we’re just filling in the dates and waiting for November. Enjoy the summer, and be sure to check in as we’ll keep updating the schedule as new dates and details become available.
