The Breakdown
It was a frustrating year for Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree, who saw career lows in nearly every category this season.
The junior co-captain was relegated to a bench role, averaging 7.7 minutes per appearance, with 1.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game.
After appearing in every single game throughout his freshman and sophomore seasons, Cosby-Roundtree saw a minutes reduction on the court.
Fans wondered what was going on. Although he played in 29 of 31 games, he didn’t look like his normal self and didn’t seem to get into a rhythm on the court.
However, Cosby-Roundtree did thrive in a 16-minute outing against DePaul on Feb. 19, where he shot a perfect 4-of-4 on the floor and didn’t miss a single free throw in route to an 11-point, seven-rebound game, with two assists.
After the season, it was unveiled that Cosby-Roundtree underwent successful surgery on his shin to remove a metallic support hardware that was inserted in a previous procedure at the start of his career.
Looking ahead
With the successful procedure, Cosby-Roundtree will be able to get back on track. While he recovers at home, he’s expected to be ready well in time for the 2020-21 season.
Despite being a tough year for the 6-foot-9 big man on the court, he was an essential presence in helping guide the younger ‘Cats and being a leader in practice or in the locker room.
He’ll reprise his captain role next season and ideally recover strong from surgery. Extra big man minutes are always appreciated, and this season was an uncharacteristic one for him, hopefully he’ll get to come back strong to close out his career.
