Happy Monday Nova Nation! The Wildcats had another great win over Georgetown this weekend, spearheaded by Saddiq Bey’s record tying 8 three’s and 33 points. He now joins Allan Ray, Darrun Hilliard, and Kris Jenkins as the only Villanova players to hit 8 threes in a game, and of the four he had the best 3FG% at 80% on 8-10 shooting. But there’s barely any time to celebrate accolades and awards this season because the Wildcats are back in action again tomorrow against the DePaul Blue Demons.

And whenever Villanova plays DePaul, we have to bring up the streak. Villanova has won 18 consecutive games against DePaul, their longest active win streak against any Power Conference team. The Wildcats last lost to the Blue Demons in Chicago on January 3, 2008. That’s right, Villanova has been beating DePaul for over a decade now.

Of course there are other notable aspects of this streak, like DePaul is the only Big East team yet to beat Villanova since the Big East realignment. But there’s finally some hope for the Blue Demons this season, as they come into the Finn on Tuesday with possibly the best team they’ve had since the streak began.

Statistically, this DePaul team is no slouch. Don’t be fooled by their 0-3 start to Big East play, this team can beat anyone on any night. They currently rank 67th in KenPom, the highest they’ve ranked in those metrics since Villanova’s streak began in 2008 and just the second time they’ve ranked in the Top 100 (99th in 2018). This DePaul team relies on a plus defense that’s exceptional at creating turnovers and protecting the rim, forcing teams to beat them from the perimeter. That’s fine when Saddiq Bey shoots 80% from deep, but let’s not count on that kind of production just yet.

We’ll have more on this game as we lead up to another late tipoff tomorrow (8:30PM at home!? yikes), so stay tuned for a full preview on Depaul at Villanova.

In other news, Villanova takes down Georgetown, the best three made in Big 5 play wasn’t from Saddiq Bey, and a bunch of updates from around the rest of Villanova Athletics. Enjoy!
