After a 20-point beatdown of St. Joe’s by the Villanova Wildcats men’s basketball team over the weekend, the are-they-or-aren’t-they our true rival debate may continue, there’s one point that isn’t up for contention: it’s a great time to be a Villanova Basketball fan.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding sports and the scheduling chaos that ensues nearly every week, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams are succeeding on the court.
The men’s team is now 7-1 and sitting nicely in the AP top 10.
However, let’s take a moment to appreciate the women’s basketball team. The Lady ‘Cats are 7-0 and despite a COVID-related postponement last week, that didn’t seem to slow them down when they returned to the court on Saturday, as they remained undefeated with a win over Creighton.
Sophomore sensation Maddy Siegrist continues to feast on the basketball court. She’s averaging 24.4 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. Siegrist had one of her best showings yet against the Bluejays where she racked up 34 points and 19 rebounds.
It’s far from a one-woman band, with senior Brianna Herlihy averaging 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Sarah Mortensen was playing well, but had to miss the last couple of games with an injury. Senior Raven James and sophomore Brooke Mullin have filled out the rest of the starting lineup well, and freshmen Bella Runyan and Lior Garzon are playing nicely as first-year players.
The Lady ‘Cats do have a tall task ahead of them on Tuesday though, when they face off against No. 3 UConn.
And now, the “news”:
