Happy Thursday Nova Nation! It was a big road win last night for the Villanova Wildcats as they took down the top team in the conference, #8 Seton Hall. The win sets up what should be an exciting day of Big East Championship basketball that could end with one, two, or even three teams sharing the title.
Seton Hall still leads the Big East by a single game, but now they head into the final day of the regular season with Villanova and Creighton each in position to crash the party. Villanova is the team in this trio that will need some help, and they’re first up with a noon game on Saturday at Georgetown. The Wildcats are three point favorites per KenPom.com, and would need to beat the rival Hoyas in order to keep their hopes at a Championship alive. Then they would need Creighton to come through and beat Seaton Hall at home. If that all happened, then all three teams would share the Big East Regular Season Championship. It would be the eighth time in Big East history that three or more teams shared the title, and the first time since Georgetown, Louisville, and Marquette did it in 2013.
As for Big East Tournament seeding, a win over Georgetown would lock Villanova into the #2 seed, regardless of how the Creighton vs Seton Hall game played out. A loss at Georgetown would mean a #3 or #4 seed for the Wildcats depending on if Providence wins and then how the rest of the tiebreakers played out. Bottom line the Wildcats are in great position for both a run in the Big East Tournament and a possible Top 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
