Jay Wright named the 2nd best College Basketball hire in past 25 years

Villanova made a pretty good hire, but you probably didn’t need ESPN to tell you that.

Sometimes Villanova fans take the program’s excellence and the successes under Jay Wright for granted. ESPN’s John Gasaway released a list of the 25 best hires in the last 25 years of college basketball on Thursday and Villanova’s Jay Wright came in at the #2 spot.

Wright’s tenure on the Main Line has only been eclipsed by North Carolina’s Roy Williams. Since 2001, Coach Wright has led the Wildcats to 14 NCAA Tournaments, seven BIG EAST regular season championships, four BIG EAST Tournament Championships, three Final Fours and two National Championships.

No other coach from the BIG EAST was noted.

John Calipari, Tom Izzo, Bill Self, among every other coach besides Williams, doesn’t rank as high as Gasaway’s nod to Jay at the second spot.

Any arguments from Villanova fans on this one?
