Villanova offers 2021 point guard Stevie Mitchell

Villanova’s search for a lead guard continues to expand.

NCAA Basketball: Villanova at Georgetown Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

On Sunday evening, Villanova offered 2021 point guard Stevie Mitchell, per Ari Rosenfeld on Twitter.

Mitchell is a 6’2” guard who attends Wilson High School and hails from nearby Reading, Pennsylvania. Mitchell has also been offered by Stanford, Marquette, Miami (Fla.), Penn State, Georgia Tech and many others. He’s ranked as a 4-star recruit and #100 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Mitchell was due to cut his list to five schools on June 9th, so the timing of this Villanova seems to line up with them wanting to stay a part of his recruitment. Wright has offered a couple of lead guards including Angelo Brizzi and Rahsool Diggins.

Mitchell has flown a little under the radar, and the canceled AAU season has made him a well-kept secret. Here’s Rivals’ Corey Evans on Mitchell’s game:

Boasting an electric first step, tremendous playmaking abilities off the bounce, explosiveness at the basket (where he is good for a posterizing a defender every now and again), and a calm demeanor in the backcourt, Mitchell brings plenty of value to the court. He has been unable to take any college visits, and due to the pandemic he might wait until the spring to sign, which is a good omen for those that may need a lead guard for next year.

Given the impending trimming of his list, perhaps Mitchell is rethinking his timeline.
