Villanova holds at #3 for fifth week in newest AP Poll

Gonzaga and Baylor remain the top two.

For the fifth consecutive week, Villanova has been ranked #3 in the country by the AP Basketball Writers.

The Wildcats (11-1, 6-0) had their game against Connecticut postponed due to a COVID exposure in the Huskies’ program. In their one game of the week, the ‘Cats won on the road in Newark, defeating Seton Hall, 80-72.

Gonzaga remains the nation’s #1 collecting 61 of the 64 First Place votes; Baylor, at #2, tallied the other First Place votes to stay at #2 for the ninth consecutive week. Michigan and Houston round out the Top 5.

BIG EAST frenemies Creighton improved to #15; Xavier and Connecticut are not in the Top 25, but are collecting votes.

Florida, Purdue, and Drake entered the polls this week as Minnesota, Saint Louis, and Louisville dropped out.

Villanova returns to action on Wednesday (2/3) when they travel to Queens to take on the St John’s Red Storm at Carnesseca Arena.
