On the heels of a 1-1 week, that included a loss to St. John’s, the AP Voters have dropped Villanova to #5 in the poll released on Monday. The Wildcats (12-2, 7-1) also defeated Georgetown over the weekend.

Gonzaga remains the nation’s #1 collecting data 55 of the 64 First Place votes (a drop from 61 first-place votes); Baylor, at #2, tallied the other First Place votes to stay as the top duo for the tenth consecutive week. Two Big Ten teams- Michigan and Ohio State are numbers 3 and 4.

BIG EAST frenemies Creighton dropped to #19 and is the only other team ranked. Xavier and St. John’s are not in the Top 25, but are collecting votes. USC, Loyola (Chi), and Oklahoma State entered the polls this week as UCLA, Florida, and Kansas dropped out.

This ends a streak of 231 consecutive weeks of the Jayhawks being ranked in the Top 25- with the last time being in February 2009. Gonzaga now has the longest streak of being in the AP Poll at 90 straight weeks. Villanova now has the second-longest streak at 35 consecutive weeks.

The ‘Cats returns to action on Wednesday (2/10) when they host Marquette at the Finneran Pavilion.
