Happy Friday!
College basketball personality and CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein had a little Philadelphia Big 5 practice tour on Thursday, and he started things off on the Main Line at Villanova.
Rothstein had a private inside look, and while there are only so many things to takeaway from and pack into 280-character tweets, here are some nuggets to get the chatter going.
Would like to share and put them all here for any Twitter-less folks or those that aren’t too keen on social media:
Greetings from The Main Line. Here to check out Villanova. Year One of the Kyle Neptune era. pic.twitter.com/N6OBuquNFw

Cam Whitmore is as offensively gifted and physically ready as any freshman that Villanova has had in a long, long time. How long? Maybe since Tim Thomas!

An elite offensive talent. Will be one of the best players in the Big East.
Villanova's staff felt that not having Jordan Longino healthy during last year's NCAA Tournament drastically affected their perimeter defense. He's now healthy. A potential Glue Guy to monitor for future seasons.

The surprise today at Villanova? Nnanna Njoku taking and making 3s. Going to have a much bigger piece of the pie. A bonafide second post option behind Eric Dixon.

Brendan Hausen. Zonebreaker.

Mark Armstrong has a chance to be an elite on-ball defender. Should be able to pressure opposing PGs for 94 feet. Nonstop energy.

Early prediction on Villanova's opening night starting five:

Mark Armstrong, Caleb Daniels, Brandon Slater, Cam Whitmore, Eric Dixon
There’s still more than a month away until the 2022-23 season tips off and feel free to put in as much stock as you would like into Rothstein’s observations, but there’s no doubt they’ll get the chatter going and raise some intrigue ahead of the Oct. 6 Blue-White Scrimmage, which will be the first public look at the team, then, the Nov. 7 season-opener.
...and here’s some quick Friday fun:
