BIG EAST Basketball Preview #2: TV Schedule, What To Watch For

Nova Nation, how does it feel to be on top of the Big East?

By yourself???

But the rest of the conference is lurking in the shadows. With wins against Georgetown and Seton Hall, Creighton is now in a tie for second place with the Hoyas. Xavier and Providence (who are also #good) are right behind them at 2-1.

Marquette had a BIG upset win on the road against Providence, and look to rebound after starting conference play 0-2. Seton Hall also stands at 2-2, however the team looks to be out of control once again.

If you recall last year, a locker room/attitude/culture issue lead to the transfer of Jared Sina. Sterling Gibbs elbowed Arcidiacono in the head and Gibbs/Whitehead seemed to have internal problems with players on the team. Isaiah Whitehead, Desi Rodriguez and Angel Delgado did not play for the final 14+ minutes of the game, and Coach Kevin Willard claims it was for "rest." This would be more believable if the team didn't have a week off after that game, which they do.

Butler is 1-3 in the conference, but don't write them off just yet. Their three losses are to Xavier, Villanova and Providence; the other ranked teams in the Big East. It's upsetting to see them go 0-3 with two of those at home, but they're still easily an NCAA Tournament team.

St. John's put up a fight against Marquette, but they and DePaul are funny.

Let's look at the week ahead.

Games of the Day

Tuesday

Providence vs. Creighton

Maurice Watson Jr. dished out 14 assists in their win against the Pirates, and Geoffrey Groselle has yet to miss a bucket this season. He and Zach Hanson combined for 30 points on 12-15 shooting vs. SHU. This has "UPSET" written on it.

Wednesday

Marquette vs. Villanova

It's a matchup we've been waiting for: Henry Ellenson vs. Daniel Ochefu. Ellenson is averaging just under 16 PPG and isn't afraid to shoot the three ball. If he's contained, this should not be a stressful outing, but Marquette has shown they can pull off a road upset.

Saturday

Villanova vs. Georgetown

This has some history behind it, but a win by G'town and they may overtake first place in the conference. This could very well serve as a seeding tiebreaker in the Big East Tournament. The front-court duo of Bradley Hayes and Issac Copeland will look to keep neutralize Ochefu, and D`Vauntes Smith-Rivera can take control of any game.
