BIG EAST Basketball Preview #3: TV Schedule, What To Watch For

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Hello, Big East fans!

Lots of shaking up in the Top 25 in a week that saw Michigan State losing twice and Maryland falling at Michigan.

There were a few question marks about Seton Hall after Kevin Willard benched his players at the end of their game vs. Creighton last Saturday, however all of those doubts went out the window when they marched into Providence to hand the Friars their second straight loss at home.

The Friars were able to win their away game at Creighton, but only because of a buzzer-beating jumper by Kris Dunn. The Friars definitely had a poor week last week. Was it a fluke, or are they falling back to earth?

Daniel Ochefu injured his tailbone last Wednesday coming down on a rebound vs. Marquette, and it was reported that he dealt with the flu later in the week. He played just 22 minutes against Georgetown in obvious pain.

Good to see he didn't fracture his sense of humor.

Let's look at the week ahead.

Games of the Day

Georgetown vs. Xavier

I bet you're thinking "Hey why didn't you pick the game where two ranked teams are playing?" I didn't because these two teams are actually higher in the Big East Standings, and this could serve as a tiebreaker for second place in the conference later in the season. Georgetown will have to find a way to overcome a Xavier team that posted a 21-0 run against Marquette. James Farr grabbed 19 rebounds against Henry Ellenson who only managed 7 boards.

Villanova vs. Seton Hall

Possibly the last time these two will meet in my undergraduate career. Crying. But every year since I was a freshman, Seton Hall has been able to get a win over Villanova. Maybe this year will be the undefeated season.

Providence vs. Villanova

This is the annual morning tailgate game for Villanova students, so sports fans and non-sports fans alike are excited for this one. A lot of fans will be seeing future lottery pick Kris Dunn in person for the first time. Daniel Ochefu's health will play a big factor in this game, keeping Ben Bentil and Rodney Bullock busy.
