BIG EAST Basketball Preview #7: TV Schedule, What To Watch For

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

The Big East standings are looking more and more interesting with each passing week!

First off, congrats to St. John's on their first conference win. They snapped a 16-game losing streak in their win against DePaul. Sure, it was against DePaul, but it still counts!

Seton Hall went 2-0 on the week to distance themselves a bit from Creighton for the third place bid.

Providence, Butler, Georgetown and Marquette are all separated by just 1 game. They are in a fight for places 5th-8th. Remember the 7th and 8th seeds would have to play an extra game in the Big East Tournament.

Let's look at the week ahead!

Games of the Day

Wednesday

Villanova vs. Xavier

This game has so many first-place implications. With a win, Villanova can all but put away the threat of Xavier dethroning the `Cats. With a loss, Xavier moves within a half game. I assume the team will not have the same kind of shooting day they did last time against the Musketeers?

Thursday

Providence vs. Seton Hall

The Pirates will be looking for the season sweep against the Friars. SHU has a game advantage on Creighton for third in the Big East and will look to keep that distance. Seton Hall barely squeaked out a win against St. John's Sunday afternoon, so they will need more effort than that against a still tough Providence squad.

Saturday

Butler vs. Georgetown.

The two schools are tied for 6th. Loser goes to 7th and forfeits the "bye" they would get in the conference tournament.

Sunday

Xavier vs. Seton Hall

If Seton Hall can get the upset on their Senior Day, it could effectively crown Villanova the Regular Season Champions for the third straight year.
