BIG EAST Basketball Preview: TV Schedule, What To Watch For

NCAA Basketball: Providence at Butler Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

What a fun first week of conference play!

Villanova-Creighton saved the fate of 2016 for Nova Nation.

DePaul took Villanova and St. John’s down to the wire. Both schools are 2-0; maybe the Blue Demons should be respected* this year.

*not convinced yet

St. John’s had a major upset over Butler to give the Bulldogs just their second loss of the season. Some people are buying on the Johnnies already.

Xavier had a scare against Georgetown but escaped DC with a win. They more than took care of Providence.

Speaking of the Friars, boy did they have a terrible start to conference play. Lost both their games by an average margin of 21.5 points.

Georgetown joins Providence in the basement, dropping their games to Xavier and Marquette.

This means Creighton, Seton Hall, Butler, and Marquette are each 1-1 in the middle of the pack. While it’s still too early to tell who will stay in their section of the standings, it’s exciting to see some surprises in each area.

We have a bit of a slow week this week- games are only being played on Wednesday and Saturday. Villanova faces another early road test this Wednesday when they take on Butler. We can take away this from the Big East games so far: so win is easy (unless you’re playing Providence)
