BIG EAST Basketball Preview: TV Schedule, What To Watch For

NCAA Basketball: Georgia Tech at Virginia Amber Searls-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been quite a week. Two of the top teams in the conference took devastating blows in the past 7 days.

Creighton will lose senior and leading assist man Maurice Watson Jr. to a torn ACL last Monday vs. Xavier. The Bluejays were able to get by the Musketeers but Watson’s absence was glaring vs. Marquette later in the week. They gave up 102 points at home and the Golden Eagles pulled off a shocking upset in Nebraska.

This past Friday Myles Davis stunned just about everyone by tweeting out this message.

This comes less than two weeks after he was reinstated from his suspension that had started at the beginning of the season. Davis wasn’t exactly helping the team- he was 0/8 on the season and only had 2 points from free throws- but this departure is astonishing (and confusing) nonetheless.

Villanova beat Seton Hall so half the war is over.

DePaul almost gave Villanova the Regular Season Big East Championship on Saturday when they took Butler to overtime. Eli Cain could have sealed the win in regulation but he missed the second free throw with seconds left to give the Bulldogs to squeak out a win. Not sure what that would mean if Butler gave Villanova its only loss but then also lost to DePaul. A wormhole may open up somewhere in the universe.

Someone tell me: is Chris Mullen a bad coach? He may have good recruiting classes now or coming in, and maybe I’m just impatient, but I’m not buying into the hype. Let me know what you all think.

Two big out of conference games this week. Xavier will take on Cincinnati in the Crosstown Shootout, and if a brawl doesn’t break out then we all deserve our money back. Villanova welcomes Virginia to the Wells Fargo Center and we all should pay extra money to see the best dressed coach vs. the other best dressed coach.
