The Big East announced its preseason accolades and individual honors heading into the 2022-23 season.
Cam Whitmore, Villanova’s prized freshman, five-star recruit, McDonald’s All-American and Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year was named the preseason Big East freshman of the year.
After Whitmore, three Wildcats earned spots on the preseason All-Big East second team: Caleb Daniels, Eric Dixon and Justin Moore.
Moore, who will miss a portion of the season as he recovers from an Achilles injury, as named All-Big East second team last season. He averaged 14.8 points and 4.8 rebounds and is Villanova’s top returning scorer from last year. He played a crucial role with the ‘Cats on both ends of the court and was an integral member in taking the ‘Cats to the Final Four.
Daniels and Dixon enjoyed their best seasons in a Villanova uniform. Daniels averaged 10.3 points and 3.8 rebounds. He shot 42.4% overall and 37.3% from beyond the arc.
As for Dixon, he established himself as Villanova’s leading frontcourt man, averaging 9.1 points and 6.4 rebounds. His three-point shot started to come through towards the end of the season, and he shot a team-high 49.8% overall and 48.6% from long range.
