We're back for our second week of BIG EAST Power Rankings (which run weekly on Tuesdays), and what I'm finding is our Georgetown bias is really starting to shine through. Despite a mixed bag this week (bad loss to Northeastern, good win vs. VCU), we had one staffer rank them ninth. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Quick FYI - there was one voter who abstained this week. They will remain nameless because it's Thanksgiving week and I'm thankful for having great friends on this staff who pick me up when I get busy.
Here are your VUhoops Power Rankings:
1. Creighton (8) - 4-0
"That St. Joseph's game put some doubt in my mind, but I'm not looking too much into that. If the Hawks stay that good, then this close win is a positive for Creighton. My man-crush on Doug McDermott still exists." - rsaccoma2016
2. Villanova - 4-0
"Superstition keeps me from putting them at the top. But damn do we have potential." - jeremy.menninger
3. Marquette - 3-2
"How are you still ranked?" - rsaccoma2016
4. Providence - 6-1
"They're making some bold moves, Cotton! Pun completely intended." - kevin.pulsifer
5. Georgetown - 3-2
"Last year's 'Nova team is an eerily similar comparison. The Hoyas will beat Kansas, Michigan State, and VCU but lose in the first round of March Madness. Wait. They'll lose in the first round regardless." - kevin.pulsifer
6. Xavier - 5-0
"All three new teams in the conference are undefeated. So it only makes sense to rank one first, and the others sixth and eighth." - kevin.pulsifer
7. St. John's - 3-1
"St. John's gets a boost by un-suspending Rysheed Jordan, because nothing will 'reform' a player quicker than sitting for one meaningless game against Monmouth. Sadly for Longwood, things are not looking up." - Brian Ewart
8. Butler - 4-0
"The win over Vandy looks good on paper, but the one point win over Ball St. looks equally as bad on paper." - Chris Lane
9. Seton Hall - 4-2
"Because they're in New Jersey." - jeremy.menninger
10. DePaul - 3-2
"Are we allowed to make jokes about Depaul when they have a higher RPI than 'Nova?" - novanation63
Thoughts? How would you have ranked the teams differently?
