A 16-month-old tweet holds true.

Nearly a year and a half ago, the Nyack Men's Basketball official twitter account announced that the Division II Warriors would "play at Villanova in 2014." Since then, not a peep had been heard about the match up.

The possibility of this exhibition decreased even more when Villanova announced playing Rollie Massimino's Northwood Seahawks this season as well.

On Monday, an official release from Nyack announced their exhibition with Villanova is set for Sunday, November 9th. And like other recent pre-season games, it will be played at the Wells Fargo Center- the Wildcats' South Philly Lair.

Nyack's head coach is Jason Crafton, who served as the Wildcats' Administrative Assistant / Video Coordinator until 2005, when he followed Billy Lange to Navy. After four years as Lange's assistant, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach at Navy -- being named one of the Top 50 Mid-Major Assistant Coaches in a 2011 edition of Basketball Times/Hoop Scoop.

Villanova will participate in two of the high-profile made-for-ESPN college hoops events at the start of the 2014-15 season. This morning, the "bracket reveal" was made public.

The Villanova Wildcats are slated to appear in both the Legends Classic tournament and the Jimmy V Classic game in New York at the start of the coming college hoops season. The two events consist of five games, and will be highlighted by matches that face the Wildcats off against VCU (in the Legends Classic) and Illinois (for Jimmy V).

The Legends Classic will consist of two on-campus games held at the Pavilion, on campus, with the four host teams predestined to advance to the championship bracket, to be played out at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on November 24th and 25th.

Villanova will open the tournament with a November 17th meeting with the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES) at the Pavilion, and then turn around to host Bucknell three days later on November 20th. Afterward, they will pack up for the Barclays Center, where they will play VCU in the first semifinal at 7p, while Michigan and Oregon face off on the other side. The winners will play for a piece of hardware to bring home from Brooklyn, while the losing teams will play to save face.

The VCU game and Championship game will be televised on ESPN 2, while the third place game will be on ESPN U, and the Michigan/Oregon game will be carried on ESPN3.com.

ESPN's full Legends Classic bracket is available here, in PDF format.

Writing for ESPN, Myron Medcalf stated that the, "winner of this event will boost its overall résumé and emerge as an early national title contender and likely top-10 squad."

Villanova will face what may be Shaka Smart's most talented VCU team yet, and their "havoc" defense has given better offensive teams than Villanova trouble. If the 'Cats can survive this match-up, then the 'Cats can develop a lot of confidence for the title game. Michigan is another team in the Legends field that has a chance to win its conference -- the very tough Big Ten. Oregon has shown a big upswing in recent years, but after dismissing Brandon Austin, Dominic Artis and Damyean Dotson in the offseason, the Ducks have a gap in talent from what had been expected.

Then, 14 days after leaving Brooklyn, the Wildcats will return to New York City for the Jimmy V Classic. The Cats were initially supposed to play Maryland in that contest, but the Terrapins dropped out of the event due to "scheduling conflicts." Instead, they will face off against the University of Illinois.

The Illini have five starters returning this season, and will likely be one of the better teams in a very-good Big Ten Conference this season. The Wildcats are likely to be the favorites, given preseason expectations and an expected pro-Nova crowd at the Garden, but the upstart Illini have the ability to put a scare into the 'Cats.

Plus, the 1985 National Champions will be back for their 30-year anniversary!

Courtesy of the Villanova Wildcats official Facebook page, we know who the exhibition game will be this fall. Rollie Massimino will return with the Division II Northwood Seahawks in what looks like it will be the an anniversary celebration of Villanova's lone national championship team from 1985.

This is not the first time that Coach Massimino has arranged a game between his former and current schools. Villanova played Northwood (FL) in their exhibition game to open up the 2006 and 2008 seasons. Both resulted in large Wildcat victories as was expected, but gave fans the chance to see the man that brought glory to the Main Line in 1985 once more.

The bigger story looks like the planned anniversary of the national championship is in the works for November. Though it's not quite 30 years to the day of the game, it looks like Villanova will be kicking off the season in style. Sometimes these celebratory events are scheduled during a big game during the heart of the season, but with Massimino still prowling the sidelines, it makes a lot of sense for the two schools to organize this event and make sure that one of the most integral figures can make it.
