The Penn Quakers have released their schedule, which has them visiting the Main Line on December 4th. The announcement gives at least two precise dates for Villanova's Big 5 schedule, with Wildcat fans still waiting for an exact date for an (expected) February showdown with Temple and the 2013-14 edition of the Holy War against St. Joseph's.
The Quakers' Big 5 games are scheduled as follows (times TBD):
Saturday, November 9: vs. Temple
Wednesday, December 4: at Villanova
Saturday, January 4: vs. La Salle
Saturday, January 18: vs. Saint Joseph's
The Quaker's January 18th game against St. Joe's will apparently be the same day as ESPN's College GameDay series comes to the Palestra to cover the Temple/La Salle game. That game will tip off at Noon on ESPN or ESPN2, while the Penn/St. Joe's game is expected to be played afterwards.
The ticket sales (and seats) will be split down the middle of the arena as was done in the past. It will be almost as if the heyday of Big 5 doubleheaders never left Philadelphia for one day.
When Villanova hosted College GameDay at the Pavilion in 2011, host Rece Davis told VUhoops, "I will admit that my suggestion has always been to do a day/night double-header at the Palestra."
It seems that he might get his wish, though it is unclear whether the ESPN TV crew will hang around on-site for the late game. Davis and his team will reportedly head north to cover Louisville at Connecticut that night.
