Recap: Dylan Ennis & Jamaica at FIBA Americas

Thomas Campbell-US Presswire

Rising Villanova sophomore, Dylan Ennis, is returning to campus with a load of international basketball under his belt after playing with Team Jamaica in the FIBA Americas tournament.

His work ethic, I can't say enough about it. -Team Jamaica Asst. Coach

The Jam Rockerz posted a 1-3 record in the Preliminary Round with a win over Brazil and losses to Canada, Uruguay, and Puerto Rico. In the Second round, Jamaica posted another 1-3 record with a win over Argentina along with losses to Dominica Republic, Venezuela, and Mexico.

Over the 8 games, Ennis averaged 2.9 points, 2.1 assists, and 2.1 rebounds. Looking at the box scores, the positives to take away are that he got solid playing time at the Senior International level logging just over 16 minutes per game. Additionally, he logged 17 assists (2nd on the team) with only 3 turnovers (a 5.7 A/TO Ratio), and matched his assists number in rebounds.

Akeem Scott (High Point '06) led Jamaica in scoring with 13.1 points per game

Negatives from Caracas? Dylan's shooting. The 6'2" point guard struggled from the floor. He never made more than two shots from the floor in a game en route to going 7-37 (18.9%) from the field including 4-20 (20%) from the marginally farther international 3-Point Line. Ennis also only made 5 of 10 shots from the Charity Stripe.

Richard Polack, Jamaican Mens National Team Assistant Coach, had this to say about Ennis, "I love Dylan. His work ethic, I can't say enough about it... I expect big, big things from Dylan Ennis in the future. I'll pay money to see Dylan Ennis play. But on this team, there are a few guys who have been around before Dylan. Dylan learns very fast. He picks up things everyday. We've come some pros, we've got some vets and we have to get those guys in."

It seems that Ennis's performance will set up a nice slide for Ryan Arcidiacono to the 2-spot.

What do you think? Are you excited for Ennis's transfer season to be up? How do you think he'll fit in with the rest of the 'Cats?
