Darrun Hilliard leads Villanova to victory and earns Big East Weekly Honor Roll spot

Another week and another Villanova player was named to the Weekly honor roll

The Big East is spreading the awards around this season with a number of standouts around the ten members. Villanova rode a strong effort from Darrun Hilliard in both games this week, with the senior guard averaging 21 points on 57.7 percent shooting including 46.7 percent from deep.

Hilliard was an anchor for Villanova in impressive wins on the road at St. John's and at home in the Pavilion against DePaul. The 90-72 victory at the Garden felt closer than the final score, with the Wildcats pulling away in the second half, while the DePaul game never really felt like it was in-doubt.

Sophomore Kris Dunn of Providence took the Player of the Week honors with a big scoring week of his own.

BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kris Dunn, Providence, Providence, G, So.

Dunn led Providence to a 2-0 week by averaging 20.5 points, 7.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week.  He scored 20 of his career-high 25 points in the second half of a 66-62 win at Butler.  He also had eight rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots.  In a 60-57 overtime win over Georgetown, Dunn scored eight of the Friars' 10 points in the extra session.  He finished with 16 points, nine assists and three steals.

BIG EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Angel Delgado, Seton Hall, F, Fr.

Delgado averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Pirates.  He also had a critical blocked shot in the last two minutes of a 68-67 win at Creighton.  Delgado shot 7-of-9 (.778) from the floor for the two games.  He is tied for second in the BIG EAST in rebounding with an 8.7 mark.

BIG EAST Honor Roll

Alex Barlow, Butler, G, Sr.

Averaged 14.0 points and shot 55.6 percent from 3-point range in a 1-1 week.  Had seven steals in a loss to Providence. 

Joshua Smith, Georgetown, Sr., C

Produced two double-doubles in a 1-1 week.  Had 12 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Marquette and 15 points and 12 boards in an overtime loss at Providence.

D'Angelo Harrison, St. John's, G, Sr.

Scored 25 points and shot 53.3 percent from the field in a loss to Villanova.

Sterling Gibbs, Seton Hall, G, Jr.

Averaged 15.0 points and 5.5 assists in a 1-1 week.  His 3-pointer with 2.2 seconds left gave the Pirates a 68-67 win at Creighton.

Darrun Hilliard, Villanova, F, Sr.

In a 2-0 week, scored 21 points in each game.  Shot 57.7 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from 3-point range.
