Noted Bracketologist and St. Joseph's (Pa.) grad Joe Lunardi gave us all a nice hump day treat today by releasing an updated bracketology projection for the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Villanova was given a 3-seed seed in the East regional, which will feature Providence (R.I.) as one of the opening round sites before heading to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds.
The Big East is projected to bring five teams to the dance. Georgetown (6), Butler (7), Xavier (9) and Marquette (11) round out the conference.
Here's a quick look at the top four teams in each region:
- East: North Carolina, Oklahoma, Villanova, Michigan State
- West: Kansas, Virginia, Gonzaga, Arizona
- South: Kentucky, Duke, Indiana, Wisconsin
- Midwest: Maryland, Iowa State, Wichita State, California
Fair? Personally, it's hard to imagine Villanova dropping below a 2-seed if they are going to win a conference that is strong enough to send half of its teams dancing. But that's what the season is for. After consecutive early exits, the 'Cats have some work to do to prove the doubters wrong.
