I saw a few tweets last week about the volatility of the Top 25 - I believe just seven teams avoided a loss last week. Whatever is ailing college basketball's elite this year is getting worse. Luckily, Villanova finally got to play the dregs of the Big East DePaul and St. John's and came away with two victories to maintain their #1 ranking in the voter polls.
Barring something catastrophic, it's starting to feel like Villanova is more in contention for the #1 overall seed with the likes of Kansas and Oklahoma than they are for merely a spot on the #1 seed line. The Big 12 is such a behemoth that it's no guarantee that either the Jayhawks or Sooners win their conference tournament, but if either does it's hard to see Villanova landing at the top, even with a Big East Tournament win of their own.
Thankfully what's important isn't where the Wildcats stay above either of those schools, but whether they stay out of the last #1 seed spot. Whoever that is is getting sent to the West ,and that's not ideal. So go ahead and root against North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia and any other Eastern school you can think of for the next few weeks.
To the projections!
