Villanova (25-4, 14-2) has claimed, a share of, the 2016 BIG EAST Men's Basketball Regular Season Championship. The Xavier Musketeers (25-4, 13-4) lost their chance for a share of the season title in their 90-81 loss to the Seton Hall Pirates on Sunday.
Should 'Nova notch one more victory in their final two games against DePaul or Georgetown (or another loss by Xavier), the regular season will solely be in the hands of the 'Cats.
Nova has also solidified their place as the #1 seed in the Conference Tournament, as the 'Cats own the second tiebreaker with Xavier in their 2-0 record against third-place Seton Hall.
This is Jay Wright's third consecutive BIG EAST regular season title since the conference was reconfigured before the 2013-14 season. 'Nova next hosts DePaul on Tuesday and Georgetown on Saturday.
The Wildcats will start the defense of their Conference Tournament Championship at noon on March 9th at Madison Square Garden; they will face the winner of the 8/9 Game.
