The 2016 NCAA Tournament bracket has been released, and the Villanova Wildcats are the #2 seed in the South Region. Coming off another Big East regular season title and a heartbreaking loss in the Big East Tournament final, the Wildcats now need to prove themselves in March.
Villanova head coach Jay Wright has talked a lot about Villanova being fine not playing in Philadelphia this year, and that's exactly what he's going to get. While the conspiracy theorists are going to be out in full force after Villanova went from a projected #1 seed in the East to a #2 seed in the South, remember that Bracketologists are not perfect.
We'll have more in-depth analysis later tonight but this is actually a very favorable draw for Villanova. UNC-Asheville shouldn't pose much of a problem for the Wildcats, and then they'll get either Iowa or Temple. Iowa has been in a free-fall for weeks, while Villanova has already throttled Temple this year at the Liacouras Center.
All in all the biggest complaint is likely not being in the East Region, but this is a solid bracket that should allow Villanova a good chance to advance to the second weekend for the first time since 2009.
