The NCAA Men’s Basketball Selection Committee released their current Top-16 seeds on Sunday afternoon, and your Villanova Wildcats find themselves on pace for a #1 seed on Selection Sunday.

Virginia (the #1 overall seed), Purdue and Xavier joined Villanova on the top seed line. Here’s the complete breakdown of seeds, by region:

East

  1. Villanova Wildcats
  2. Duke Blue Devils
  3. Texas Tech Red Raiders
  4. Ohio State Buckeyes

South

  1. Virginia Cavaliers
  2. Cincinnati Bearcats
  3. Michigan State Spartans
  4. Tennessee Volunteers

Midwest

  1. Xavier Musketeers
  2. Auburn Tigers
  3. Clemson Tigers
  4. Oklahoma Sooners

West

  1. Purdue Boilermakers
  2. Kansas Jayhawks
  3. North Carolina Tar Heels
  4. Arizona Wildcats

The ‘Cats currently control their own destiny, as does conference rival Xavier. Next Saturday’s game at the Cintas Center has direct implications on the Big East title, but could determine which school can land a #1 seed on Selection Sunday.

Villanova - currently without Phil Booth (hand) and Eric Paschall (concussion) - have a tough regular season schedule remaining. Trips to Providence and Xavier next week are followed by a pit stop vs. DePaul at home. Then the ‘Cats are back on the road at Seton Hall and Creighton. They’ll wrap up the regular season at home to Georgetown on March 3rd.

If Villanova can hold on for the Big East regular season title, they will likely maintain that 1-seed. If they get pipped by Xavier, they might have some work to do in New York City at the Big East Tournament.
