With the 2017-18 season in the books and another National Championship in hand, it’s time to update the Villanova record books. This season three new players have joined the all-time ranks, while Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson cemented themselves as two of the program’s greats. Check in all week as we update a new category each day.
We start the week with scoring. That seems especially appropriate as this year’s Wildcats had the highest scoring offense in all of college basketball. Appropriately, the two highest scoring players on the team are the two newest members of Villanova’s 1,000 point club.
Jalen Brunson scored his 1,000th point early in the season during a victory against Tennessee at the Battle 4 Atlantis. He would go on to lead Villanova in scoring on the season with 756 points. That’s the 4th most points ever scored in a single season by a Villanova player. Brunson finished his career in 14th place All-Time with 1,667 career points.
Mikal Bridges scored his 1,000th point at the Wells Fargo Center against St. John’s. He went on to score 706 points, more than double his total points from the previous two seasons. That also tied Kerry Kittles best offensive season as a Wildcat, now the 6th best scoring season in school history. Bridges finished his Villanova career ranked 40th All-Time with 1,311 points.
Looking ahead, four Wildcats are within striking distance of the 1,000 point mark. Donte DiVincenzo (870), Phil Booth (839), Eric Paschall (662), and Omari Spellman (434) will all have a chance at joining the All-Time Scoring club in 2018-19.
