The Villanova Wildcats won’t have to wait until next season to see what Trey Patterson can do.
Patterson, a consensus four-star and top 40 nationally-ranked prospect in the class of 2021, announced on Friday night that he will be graduating Rutgers Prep early and enrolling at Villanova for the start of the spring semester.

Patterson is one of the headliners in Villanova’s loaded 2021 recruiting class, a group that also features commits Jordan Longino (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy), Nnanna Njoku (Hockessin, Del./Sanford School), and Angelo Brizzi (Warrenton, Va./Highland).
That quartet is currently rated the No. 3 best recruiting class in the country for 2021 team rankings.
“We’re really excited that Trey has decided to join us for the spring semester,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “He’s an outstanding student who made graduating early a priority so that he could be with us. Trey’s a talented player and bringing him onboard will help our team immediately. This will also serve as a great springboard for him into next season.”
Last season, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 19.7 points per game while helping Rutgers Prep post a 27-2 record.
Patterson will be eligible to play upon arrival and the start of the spring semester.
“Trey’s a talented player and bringing him onboard will help our team immediately,” Wright said. “This will also serve as a great springboard for him into next season.”
