The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 20 watch list members for the 2024 Julius Erving Award, and new Villanova Wildcat Tyler Burton is on the list.

Named after Class of 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional basketball player Julius Erving, the annual honor, in its tenth year, recognizes the top small forwards in Division I men’s college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.

Burton, a 6’7” Massachusetts native, averaged 19 points and 7.4 rebounds per game last season for the Richmond Spiders. He also added one and a half assists for Richmond while shooting 44.9% from the field, including 55-188 from behind the arc (29.3%). In four seasons at Richmond, Burton has tallied 1,634 total points and snagged 819 boards as a Spider.

A Villanovan has won a third of the Julius Erving Awards given out since 2015 with Saddiq Bey (2020), Mikal Bridges (2018), and Josh Hart (2017).

Villanova opens their 2023-24 campaign on Monday, November 6th, when they host American at the Finneran Pavilion.
