Aside from Villanova, he yielded offers from Fordham, Coastal Carolina, and Sacred Heart. He chose Villanova for the academics, wishing to enroll into the nursing program, as well as the proximity to home.
Townsel was a standout running back at St. Joseph (N.J.), being the key workhorse that helped carry the Wildcats to a perfect 12-0 record and a Non-Public Group 2 championship.
He ran for 1,616 yards and 31 touchdowns, earning South Jersey offensive Player of the Year honors and the Press of Atlantic City Player of the Year title.
However, he’ll be playing on defense for Mark Ferrante. He also starred as an outside linebacker for St. Joseph’s, tallying over 50 tackles his senior season.
Townsel plays defense just like he did offensively, as a running back—looking to punish his opponent. He’s quick, fast, and searching for the big hit.
He is the second linebacker to sign for the ‘Cats in the class of 2018, with the other being Owen Thomas.
