Rakim Cox Injury Will Keep Him Out Against Stony Brook

New, comments

The junior defensive end will not be able to suit up as he will be undergoing an MRI later this week.

Villanova junior defensive end Rakim Cox will not be fit to play on Saturday against Stony Brook in the first round of the FCS playoffs, head coach Andy Talley has announced. Cox suffered an injury late in the win against Delaware and did not return.

"He won’t be available," Talley said of Cox. "He will be getting an MRI."

Cox led the Villanova defense with 5.5 sacks in 2012. This is a big loss for a Villanova defense that has shown to be susceptible to the run at times this season. It couldn't come at a worse time either as Villanova lines up to face one of the top rushing attacks in the country in Stony Brook's Miguel Maysonet and Marcus Coker.

Talley also lamented the fact that Villanova will not get an extra week of rest as they did not receive a bye in the playoffs.

"I was hoping we wouldn’t have to play in the first round," Talley said. "More than anything is the rest and now we won’t have that."
