Commitment season continues with lineman Matt Donoghue

Garnet Valley offensive lineman Matt Donoghue committed to play football at Villanova.

The 6-5 offensive lineman is between 275 and 290 pounds depending on who you ask, but with a 2-star rating from Rivals.com, Matt Donoghue is a player with some upside at the FCS level. That is why the Wildcats were among several FCS programs that had offered the Garnet Valley recruit, and it's why coaches were likely be elated to learn that he had committed.

"Villanova just felt right," Donoghue told Philly.com. "It's a great school academically, and the football program is awesome. I loved the coaches, it was close to home, and I felt like I could fit in with the other players."

He also reportedly had offers from Coastal Carolina, Lafayette, Marist, William and Mary, and Youngstown State.

From the offensive guard spot, he helped lead Garnet Valley to a 9-2 record this season and a spot in the District 1 AAAA Playoffs. He was selected to the First Team All-Delaware County and All-Central League as a senior this fall.

Regardless of his actual weight, he is an incredibly hard-worker, especially in the weight room, so getting in shape for CAA play shouldn't be an issue this summer. He comes from a run-heavy system at GV, that has a triple-option attack out of a pistol formation. His team ran for 3,166 yards this Fall behind him.
