University of Maine's quarterback Marcus Wasilewski was named the CAA Football Student-Athlete of the year, headlining a list of 137 athletes who met the qualifications to be honored. The Maine QB graduated in December with a cum laude degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education. It was his fourth time honored by the league for academics.
Sixteen Villanova Wildcats were also named among the honorees. New Hampshire led the schools with 21 players honored, but the Main Liners' haul remains impressive. Stony Brook had the fewest honorees, with just two players making the list.
The eligible members of the CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team, must all be either starters or important reserve players with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 4.00 scale) for his entire academic career. Transfers and first-year freshmen are eligible. The Student-Athlete of the Year award is selected by a vote of the league's communications contacts.
Villanova's selections include nine offensive and six defensive players. The complete list is available from the CAA Football conference.
